Tariff and trade-ban change tracker with landed-cost exposure for cross-border traders

Who and what

Buyer: Small and mid-size exporters, importers and cross-border suppliers, and their customs brokers.
Recurring job: Monitor tariff, quota and import-ban changes by product code and recompute landed cost, margin and exposure per product, customer and shipment.
Problem: Tariff and ban announcements change weekly and per HS code; firms without trade analysts cannot quickly see which products, customers and margins are hit.
First payer: Owner of a small customs brokerage with 20-50 clients on the US-Canada border

Seven criteria

Payer4

S Small importers/exporters and customs brokers named; CFIB members 'will kill our businesses', brand founder '$10mn tariff cost' — spend is visible.

Urgency / frequency5

S Tariff/ban lists change weekly, effective dates within days (Sept 8, 15, 29; Jan 1).

Reachability4

S Licensed customs brokers are open on the CBP list; CFIB member associations; importers are findable.

MVP (days)14

I HS code matching + list monitor + landed cost calculation; data work but rule-based.

Sales cycle (days)45

I SME importer self-serve 30, customs broker channel 45-60.

Recurrence4

S Repeats with every tariff round; monthly subscription.

Evidence3

S 108 seeds, 46 documents, 2 explicit_problem, confidence 4 x9; mostly news-derived but the CFIB survey (40% of exporters affected, 80% revenue loss) is buyer voice.

Rationale

The largest group of the portfolio's u75-A04 (tariff refund + HS) family: 108 seeds, weekly rule changes, open customs broker list. Since most of the volume is news-derived, evidence is 3; the category has enterprise-level tools, the SME gap needs to be verified.

Family and precedent

Family: Tariff and customs changes: exposure, refunds, de minimis (7 groups)
Family cluster: Golden Egg Fastest path to a first paying customer
Product wedge: Upload SKU list → match against new tariff/ban/refund lists → email of affected SKUs and landed-cost difference; refund (IEEPA) tracking as a second module.

Assumptions

A SME importers do not have access to enterprise tools like Avalara/Descartes; the SME gap is an assumption.
A The $30-100 monthly willingness to pay is the seeds' own assumption.
